Your expert workshop leader:
Shilpa Kolhe is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, with practical experience of running rapid access clinics and improving local gynaecology pathways. She brings a service-focused perspective to this workshop, sharing insight from her own experience of emergency gynaecology, early pregnancy care, ultrasound and scanning, and one-stop models within the NHS.
Miss Shilpa Kolhe is a Consultant Gynaecologist at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, UK. She is the Clinical Lead for Ambulatory Gynaecology and has been instrumental in developing and expanding comprehensive ambulatory gynaecology services over the past 15 years. Her work includes establishing structured training programmes and mentoring clinicians. She led successful introduction of the Nurse-Led Outpatient Hysteroscopy Service at the Royal Derby Hospital in 2016.
Miss Kolhe graduated from the University of Mumbai, India, in 1997 and completed her MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2000. She undertook specialist training in London before completing higher specialist training in the East Midlands. She obtained Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2006, was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2011 and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in 2018.
Her specialist interests include benign gynaecology, menstrual disorders, fibroid management, advanced hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery, gynaecological ultrasound, ambulatory gynaecology, emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy care. She is involved with the development of rapid-access clinics in gynaecology assessment unit with integrated point-of-care ultrasound, improving timely diagnosis and management of acute gynaecological conditions.
An enthusiastic educator and recognised national faculty member, Miss Kolhe is a regular invited speaker at regional, national and international meetings, with an expertise in ambulatory hysteroscopy and contemporary fibroid management. She is passionate about quality improvement and patient safety and currently serves as Divisional Lead for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for Gynaecology across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. She also chairs the Trust’s Benign Gynaecology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting.
Since 2014, Miss Kolhe has been Course Director for the Advanced Ambulatory Hysteroscopy Course held twice yearly at the Royal Derby Hospital. Since 2022, she has co-organised the joint RCOG/BSGE Special Interest Training Module (SITM) in Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy in London. She is also a member of the BSGE Hysteroscopy Subcommittee, contributing to national education and service development in hysteroscopy.
